Zeda's Beat Box to rock StL Jewish youth groups at special concert.

Jewish youth groups JSU, BBYO and NCSY, will host a concert, "Rock 'n Roll for the Jewish Soul:  by local Jewish rock reggae sensation Zeda’s Beat Box on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Cicero's in the Delmar Loop. Doors open at 7:30 p.m with a 7:30 p.m. Havdalah. The concert begins at 7:45 p.m.

The event brings together Jewish youth of all denominations for a night of unity and high energy dance music. The evening creates an opportunity for teens from around the St. Louis community to come together and celebrate the New Year. The partnership of JSU, BBYO and NCSY provides teens with a chance to meet each other and enjoy a night of fun, music, and friends. The evening will begin with Havdalah led by Rabbi Michael Rovinski and members of various youth groups. Zeda’s Beat Box will play an hour long concert featuring songs from their debut CD “Kabbalat Shabbat”.

Zeda’s Beat Box sets Jewish liturgy and original English lyrics to the deep groove of reggae, ska and rock music. The band’s dynamic mix of Jewish tradition and modern music has landed them shows in both synagogues and night clubs. Bay Area producer, DJ Bradelectro, describes the music as “a cross between Bob Marley, The Clash and Fiddler on the Roof”.

The band was formed in January of 2007 by Dave Simon, the founder of Dave Simon's Rock School.  To build the band, Simon recruited four teenagers who participate in Rock School's band program.
