Opportunities

 Volunteering is a great way to utilize your your time to improve our community.  Below is a list of opportunities.  Please continue to help our community by volunteering your time.


Jewish Family & Children’s service

General Volunteer Information
Volunteer Coordinator:  Kelly Mueller: kmueller@JFCS-STL.ORG
All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or be accompanied by an adult member of the immediate family.

Before acceptance, potential volunteers will complete the JF&CS volunteer application process which includes a written application with references, a signed Hold Harmless Agreement and Agency Code of Conduct.

The Agency will conduct criminal background screening on all volunteers who have direct contact with clients. All volunteers with access to client information must complete HIPAA training.  Program Coordinators will work with each volunteer to create a working on-going schedule (if applicable).  Volunteers will log their volunteer time with their Program Coordinator to be computed on an hourly basis.

Community Chaplaincy
This program provides long-term care facility residents with a link to the Jewish community and to their Jewish spiritual traditions by offering religious, social, and emotional support services.  Activities include: pastoral counseling for residents and their families, coordination of a friendly visitor volunteer program to assist with outreach and visiting, and offering education to service providers on Judaism and community resources.

The program is open to Jewish residents of long-term care facilities in the St. Louis area.  There is no fee for chaplaincy services.

Chaplaincy Outreach Volunteer
Description:  Chaplaincy Outreach volunteers regularly visit with residents of long term care facilities; provide companionship and a listening ear.  The purpose of the program is to reduce the isolation experienced by many residents of long term care facilities, helps residents maintain their highest possible level of functioning, and helps them maintain a connection to the Jewish community.
Time:  Days and evenings.

Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry
The Food Pantry provides a nutritious variety of food and personal care items to those in need.  Clients who are unable to visit the pantry may be able to have their food delivered by HKJFP. 
Time: The pantry is located on the first floor of JF&CS, and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  A satellite food pantry is located at Central Reform Congregation.  It is open to clients the second Wednesday of the month 11am – 1 pm

Food Pantry Aid
Description:  While maintaining confidentiality and promoting dignity of the individuals, Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry volunteers help provide food, personal care items and gift items to those in financial need.  
Time/Location:  
         
JF&CS:  Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. 
         Central Reform Congregation: second Wednesday of the month 11a.m. – 1p.m.

Food Pantry Basket Decorator
Description:  Volunteers help decorate large food baskets which are displayed in lieu of pulpit floral arrangements at area synagogues as a fund raising project for the Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry.
Time:  Wednesday mornings.

Mailing Assistant
Description:  Assists with mailings on an “on-call” basis when needed.
Time: As needed on weekdays during normal business hours..

Telephone Assistant 
Description:  Assist with making calls about agency events on an “on-call” basis.
Time:  As needed on weekdays during regular business hours.

Filing Assistant
Description:  Sorting and filing documents and other materials for the accounting department and programs.
Time:  Weekdays during regular business hours.

Financial Assistance Program

When life presents an unexpected financial crisis, JF&CS provides short-term loans and grants to meet basic living expenses.  Care managers also help clients develop a budget and a plan for stabilization and recovery.

The Financial Assistance staff assesses client needs, develops plans, accesses community resources, and provides limited counseling during tough times.

Financial Assistance Social Work Volunteer
Description:  Work with clients who are requesting financial assistance. Primary focus is to assess client needs in person or on the phone.  Develop recovery plans for clients, access community resources and provide limited counseling.
Time:  Monday through Friday during normal business hours, 8:30 - 5:15.  Volunteers are asked to commit for three months of service.  Schedules will be developed with Financial Assistance staff.

Minimum BA or BSW degree related to social work or related field. 

Financial Assistance Aid
Description:  Volunteer works with clients who are requesting financial assistance from JF&CS.  Primary focus is to interview clients to assess their needs and provide information for Financial Assistance staff to develop and counsel clients.   Volunteer will have face to face client contact and extensive phone work to begin client evaluation.
Time:   Monday through Friday during normal business hours, 8:30 - 5:15.  Volunteers are asked to commit for three months of service.  Schedules will be developed with the Financial Assistance staff.
