JCC Adult Day Center Receives
Award for Outstanding Innovative Services
St. Louis, MO- April 30 —The Missouri Adult Day Services Association has presented the Adult Day Center at The Jewish Community Center with the Award for Outstanding Innovative Adult Day Services. The award recognizes excellence in the support and delivery of adult-based services. This is the first-ever honorary award received by the Adult Day Center at the J.
Maggie Menefee, Program Director of the Adult Day Center, attended the Spring Conference to receive the award on behalf of the J on April 16. “This is a major acknowledgement for the tremendous work done in our Adult Day Center,” says Menefee. “So many people in the St. Louis community benefit from our services. I’m grateful for the opportunity to celebrate what we do.”
The Adult Day Center has a 30-year history of successful programming in St. Louis. The facility offers an outstanding day care experience for family members and also meets the respite needs of their caretakers. The Center provides its participants with a wealth of activities to choose from such as intergenerational activities, pet therapy, art, music, modified sports and other recreational events. Alzheimer’s support, physical therapists, certified personal trainers, and on-site occupational therapists are all available through the Adult Day Center. It is located adjacent to the J’s Early Childhood area, so young and old are able to interact on a daily basis.
The state-of-the-art amenities at the Center set it apart from comparable facilities within Missouri. Designed by a dementia expert at the University of Missouri- Columbia, the Center meets the needs of the elderly with its thoughtful layout. The “homelike” atmosphere is equipped with floors to help with depth perception, colorful walls for directional guidance and a raised garden bed for those with a green thumb.
